The Indian Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ISTAM) was established in 1955 with Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur as its headquarters. ISTAM was formed by the think-tanks of post independent India to provide a common platform for scientists, technologists, and engineers to share their insights on the developments in the field of Mechanics and discuss their individual or group research projects. Apart from functioning as a repository of academic knowledge, ISTAM also focuses on resolving the challenges of a developing society to enable better living conditions. In the annual ISTAM congress, five memorial lectures are delivered in honor of Prof. B.R. Seth, Prof. P.L Bhatnagar, Prof. B. Karunesh, Prof. A.S. Gupta, and Prof.G.I Taylor by eminent scholars from across the globe. Also, numerous invited lectures are organized to discuss the recent trends in Mechanics. The annual conferences of the Society have been held at various IITs, RECs, NITs, Universities, Engineering colleges and other reputed research establishments in different parts of the country. It has always attracted many national and international research scholars. The Society promotes inter-disciplinary research in Basic Sciences and Applied Mechanics and encourages young scientists with awards and appreciation. Papers submitted for the conference are peer reviewed and published in the form of e-proceedings. Further, abstracts of papers that are presented in the Congress are published in our Souvenir volume.

The 66th Congress of ISTAM (an international conference) will be held at VIT-AP University, Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, India. Depending on the pandemic protocol in India at the time of the conference (December 2021), the committee may decide to conduct it through virtual mode.

The curriculum for this programme is designed is divided into two parts. The initial part of the programme focuses on acquiring fundamental knowledge of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. It concentrates on areas where mathematics and computing are most relevant to each other, emphasising the bridges between theory and practice. It offers opportunities for potential computer scientists both to develop a deeper understanding of the mathematical foundations of their subject, and to acquire a familiarity with the mathematics of application areas where computers can solve otherwise intractable problems. It also gives mathematicians access to both a practical understanding of the use of computers and a deeper understanding of the limits on the use of computers in their own subject. Further, this part of the programme is designed to provide the students with the skills of those disciplines of mathematics, statistics and computer science that bring together the core knowledge that constitutes data science.

The later part blends fundamentals of Computational and Data sciences. In this part of the programme students acquire the knowledge about industry relevant skills on Mathematical modeling, statistical modeling, data science concepts, machine learning principles and algorithms and visualization techniques. The programme will also provide with adequate domain knowledge to help organizations find ways to take major business decisions, reduce costs, get into new markets, launch a new product or service, find the sentiment of the customers and so on. About the Programme

The M.Sc. Physics programme aims to develop an application and technology oriented learning, along with an in-depth training of the core classical areas of Physics. The programme is designed with a combination of theoretical, experimental, and project-based learning components of Physics to enhance the passion for the subject, a deep understanding on various interdisciplinary areas, and a desire to contribute for the development of new technologies. Under this programme, students get an opportunity to get introduced to cutting edge modern day technologies and gain experience via active hands-on learning.

The programme is of two years duration and is split into four semesters. Students have the opportunity to get engaged in interim and final semester projects, and work in the many interdisciplinary areas of research active in the University.
