Stagecraft theater workshop

Dhwani, the theatre and performing arts club, of VIT Amaravati organized a workshop, titled Stagecraft, in order to introduce various aspects of theatre to the students. Mr. T.N. Kumaradas, a fellow from the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India, Pune was the resource person for the workshop. The workshop progressed through various games to familiarize the students with the techniques of presentational and representational concepts of theatre. The workshop did justice to Dhwani’s aim to provide the students with an insight into the western and Indian arts and theatre, to give a platform for nurturing the student’s various artistic talents in terms of writing, performing, acting, interpreting thoughts, exploring new ideas, and channeling creative choices. The club co-ordinator Dr. Karthika V.K., of the Department of English and Soft Skills, co-ordinated the one-day workshop.

Flamenco workshop at VIT-AP

Beat the Heat, the dance club of VIT-AP, organized a Flamenco workshop on 18th August 2018. The workshop was conducted by Ms.Yuka Shori, a professional expert and trainer of the Flamenco art form.

Ms. Yuka Shori has learnt Flamenco from her time at SFC Spanish dance group in Keio University in Japan from 2006 to 2010. From early on, she has had several national stage experiences conducted by FLESPON (National Student Flamenco Federation). As a trainee, she completed professional teacher training course of “Introduction to Basic Flamenco” conducted by Alegria Dance School in Japan.

Hands-on 3 day FDP on Statistical Data Analysis and Machine Learning using R , 10th -12th July 2018

The Department of Mathematics, VIT-AP, organized a 3 day FDP on Statistical data analysis and Machine learning using R during 10th to 12th July 2018. 60 faculty members from all the departments, including Management and English & Soft Skills, took part in the programme. This FDP provided deep insights into statistical data analysis with the help of R. Dr. Indranil Mukhopadhyay along with Mrs. Sharmistha Das beautifully crafted the Programme. They kept the sessions quite interactive and were ever ready to help the participants. In these 3 days, Dr. Mukhopadhyay explained how to do Regression analysis, Hypothesis testing, and Machine learning using R, along with simultaneous hands-on sessions. He lucidly explained the concepts of the workshop and made it easier for everyone to understand. Lastly, he advised the participants to focus on intuition while dealing with statistical data and provided a perspective to look at statistics as the study of the variances in data.

72nd Independence Day Celebrations

The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated at VIT-AP on 15th August, 2018. The occasion was graced by Chief Guest Sri K. Satyanarayana, I.P.S. Director General, State Disaster Response and Fire Services, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh and Guest of Honour Sri Lt. Col. S.M. Kannan, Chairman, VIT Alumni Association.

Inauguration of BIOSCOPE – Movie making and Screening Club

The Bioscope club ( Movie making and Screening Club) had its first screening on campus. The chief guest for the inauguration ceremony was Ms. Kolluru Puja Aparna. Ms. Puja Aparna hails from Vijayawada who achieved an invitation (in 2013) for pursuing a four-year Undergraduate Course in Digital Film-making with a full scholarship at Ringling College of Art and Design, Sarasota (Florida) in the US. She has won several awards for her short films in the US. Ms. Puja will be sharing her movie making journey and inspire the young minds at VIT-AP.

FDP on “Words are Made by Words: Language and Construction of Power”

The Department of English & Soft Skills organised a Faculty Development Programme entitled “Worlds are Made by Words: Language and Construction of Power” on Saturday the 11th of August 2018. Dr. Amit Ranjan, the Australia Awards Ambassador, a faculty at NCERT, Bhubaneswar,and an Indian English Poet delivered a series of lectures on the theme. He talked about how history was rewritten and reinterpreted and how language was used as a tool of power to subjugate the reality. He talked about how the theories of Darwin were used as a pseudoscientific tool to colonize the world and how the history always viewed the “white man’s burden” as an approved norm.

There was an interactive session on Australian Scholarships with students and research scholars following the lectures. It was followed by a poetry session hosted by Toastmasters Club in which he read excerpts from his newly published poetry collection Find Me Leonard Cohen I’m Almost Thirty. Many of the VIT-AP students read their poems. Faculty members, students and research scholars actively participated in the programme making it an interesting and highly interactive session.
